ajsmama: Or maybe the yellowish tint was from the pine shavings themselves? Mar 26, 2015 13:33:09 GMT -5
ajsmama: I messaged Pam and Ivans, just wondering if our OK friends are OK? Jon? John? Mar 26, 2015 13:35:24 GMT -5
juanitospeppers: im fine Mar 26, 2015 21:03:01 GMT -5
ajsmama: I heard from Ivana, she says she Pam and all the little seedlings are fine. Mar 26, 2015 21:53:00 GMT -5
ajsmama: Hey dmf - just saw this, you can sell your peppers! http://cityhallblog.dallasnews.com/2015/03/dallas-council-oks-garden-sales-despite-corn-concerns.html/?fb_action_ids=1032786030083743&fb_action_types=og.shares Mar 27, 2015 7:51:43 GMT -5
dmf: Our loony city council finally got something right - barely. Mar 27, 2015 14:54:21 GMT -5
ajsmama: I can't believe the whole corn debate! Mar 27, 2015 14:56:00 GMT -5
dmf: Well, the other issues are like it. "Gardens are ugly and will disfigure front yards." Don't ask about the loony grocery bag ban! Mar 27, 2015 16:44:38 GMT -5
mikeusmc: DMF, I'm starting to hear things about the grocery bag ban here in CT too. It's been on the news a few times lately Mar 28, 2015 13:13:43 GMT -5
dmf: Not really a ban - store must charge min 5 cents per plastic bag. Most don't pay so checkout takes forever. Who knew that grocery bags are so dangerous? 8( Mar 28, 2015 14:17:11 GMT -5
ajsmama: Gee, last I knew they were giving 5 cents a bag "coupon" for using your own, though come to think of it that dropped to 3-4 cents. Since I usually go through the scan-your-own line the rare times I go to a grocery store, I haven't even been doing that. Mar 28, 2015 18:03:42 GMT -5
mikeusmc: I swear I saw on the news that the plastic bags were going to be banned sometime in the near future for environmental reasons. IIRC, they also had a cutoff/deadline date, when the stores would stop supplying them here in CT Mar 29, 2015 8:01:20 GMT -5
mikeusmc: Don't quote me on that; I've been wrong before ;) Mar 29, 2015 8:01:55 GMT -5
northof49: They tried to ban grocery bags here, lasted under 1/2 yr. Then it was .05 cents a bag. They dropped that but some stores thought that it is a good cash grab so continue to charge. They made a ton of cash on those re-useable bags. Mar 29, 2015 15:40:27 GMT -5
ajsmama: I just saw that when I googled it - needs more study they say. I knew 1 town had a ban. Guess we'll just have to start buying small trash bags, that's what we use them for, though I am running out since I don't actually go to grocery stores often. Mar 29, 2015 16:05:10 GMT -5
mecdave: Yep, needs more study. Everyplace they've banned plastic bags, you suddenly see these headlines... Mar 29, 2015 19:24:58 GMT -5
mecdave: "E. coli Infections Spike After Plastic Bag Ban" Mar 29, 2015 19:25:06 GMT -5 *
mecdave: People don't know to wash their cloth bags after carrying meat home in them. Mar 29, 2015 19:26:02 GMT -5
ajsmama: I put my meat in insulated bags and wipe those down each time even though I also use the thin plastic bags they have in the meat dept. CT was going to exempt the produce dept bags, should exempt meat also. Just the main "shopping bags" up for debate? Mar 29, 2015 20:15:40 GMT -5
ajsmama: Another birthday here! Actually 3 but the others haven't posted in over a year...Happy Birthday Pam!! Mar 29, 2015 20:44:36 GMT -5
